I’m Melissa’s uncle through my marriage with her Aunt Marge (Joe’s sister). This picture is of Melissa at approximately 9 months old with her grandmother (better known as Busia) at our wedding in June of 1980. Melissa is smiling as she is taking her first steps. I remember when she was born and hearing the name that Joe and Jane chose for her. My immediate thought was, wow I love the song “Melissa” and what a perfect name for her. I didn’t get to see her all that often due to us all being spread around the country. Fortunately, we spent many Christmas’ together as well as occasional visits to Texas or when she came to California. I often would ask her if she heard and liked the song “Melissa”. She would always look at me with sparkle in her eyes and give me her beautiful smile. In her honor, I have recorded myself performing “Melissa” and submitted it here. Every sound you hear, comes from my heart in memory of Melissa. I dedicate this to her spirit, our family, the extended family, and all of her friends. With love and respect, rest in peace Melissa.
